Cellular Shades at a glance: Honeycomb-structured window shades that create insulating air pockets while providing full-blackout privacy and a soft, compact profile.

What Are Cellular Shades?
Cellular shades use a honeycomb construction that creates air pockets between the room and the window. The shade folds into a compact stack when raised and forms a clean pleated surface when lowered. Current SunShieldor cellular shades use blackout material for privacy and room darkening.
Choose Your Cellular Shade
| Configuration | Best for | Shop |
|---|---|---|
| Cordless standard size | Reachable windows that match a listed width and height | Cordless blackout cellular shades |
| Motorized standard size | High, wide or frequently adjusted windows | Motorized blackout cellular shades |
| Custom size | Exact finished width and height with cordless or motorized control | Custom-size blackout cellular shades |
Where Cellular Shades Work Best
- Bedrooms and nurseries: blackout material supports privacy and reduces incoming light through the covered glass.
- Temperature-sensitive rooms: the honeycomb structure adds an insulating air layer at the window.
- Home offices: the pleated surface provides a soft appearance without decorative fabric folds.
- High or wide windows: motorized operation reduces frequent reaching and manual handling.
Blackout describes the fabric. Side gaps, window shape and mounting method still affect the final room-darkening result.
Inside Mount or Outside Mount?
An Inside Mount sits within the opening for a built-in appearance and requires enough unobstructed frame depth. An Outside Mount installs on the wall or trim and allows added overlap, which can reduce edge light. Measure each window separately with our illustrated window measuring guide.
Standard Size or Made to Measure?
Choose a standard-size product when a listed width and height fit your opening and mounting plan. Choose custom size when you need an exact finished width and height. Custom cellular shades have a 30 cm (11.82 in) minimum finished width and an 8 sq. ft. minimum charge per finished shade.

Cordless or Motorized Cellular Shades?
Choose cordless for reachable windows and simple manual control. Choose motorized for high, wide or frequently adjusted windows. Current motor packages are rechargeable and include a handheld remote; Zigbee or Matter functions require compatible smart-home equipment.
