Custom Shades for Small and Narrow Windows: Minimum Width & Ordering Guide

Custom window shade fitted to a narrow window opening

Small and narrow windows often need custom sizing because standard widths may not fit the opening. SunShieldor custom shades require a minimum finished width of 30 cm (11.82 in) and use an 8 sq. ft. minimum billable area per finished shade.

Custom shade fitted to a narrow bedroom window
Measure narrow windows carefully and confirm the minimum finished width before ordering.

Start with the finished dimensions

Decide whether the shade will sit inside the opening or cover it from outside. Measure width first and height second in inches. Check frame depth, locks, handles and trim.

Understand the minimum charge

Billable area is based on width × height ÷ 144, subject to the 8 sq. ft. minimum per finished shade. A physically smaller shade can therefore still be billed at 8 sq. ft. The product page calculator and cart total control the final order amount.
